Signage & Storefront Questions
Do you handle sign permits and landlord approvals?
We design your signage and coordinate with sign fabricators. Permitting requirements vary by city and by landlord — we help you understand what's needed and prepare submission-ready design files, but the permit application itself is typically handled by you or the sign installer. For Minneapolis businesses, we're familiar with local signage regulations and can guide you through the process.
What types of signs are best for a small storefront?
For a small storefront, we typically recommend a main identification sign (channel letters or a dimensional sign above the entrance), window graphics (your logo, hours, and services on the glass), and possibly a blade sign that projects outward for foot-traffic visibility. Every storefront is different — we'll look at your specific space and recommend what maximizes visibility within your budget.
Can you design both interior and exterior signage?
Yes. We design exterior signage (storefront signs, window graphics, awnings, projecting signs) and interior signage (lobby signs, directional wayfinding, wall graphics, department signs, ADA-compliant signage). Having one designer handle both ensures your interior and exterior feel like the same brand.
How long does it take from design to installation?
Design typically takes 1-2 weeks. Permitting (if required) can take 2-6 weeks depending on your city. Fabrication takes 2-6 weeks depending on sign type and complexity. Installation is usually scheduled within 1-2 weeks after fabrication. Total: 5-14 weeks. We'll map out the timeline specific to your project during consultation.
What if I'm renting my space — can I still get custom signage?
Yes. Most commercial leases allow tenant signage with landlord approval. We'll help you prepare design submissions for landlord review. We also design signage that can be removed or updated when needed — like window graphics and non-permanent signs — which is especially useful for leased spaces where you may not want permanent structural changes.
Do you design banners and temporary signage for events or promotions?
Yes. Vinyl banners, retractable banner stands, feather flags, yard signs, A-frame sidewalk signs, and event backdrops — we design them all. Temporary signage is usually faster and less expensive than permanent signage, and it's a great way to promote grand openings, seasonal sales, and special events.
